JD received a Master's in Social Work from Aurora University. He currently has 20 years of law enforcement experience. His journey into mental health began after seeing a need within the law enforcement community, beginning as a Mental Health First Aid for First Responders instructor and continuing to become an instructor for the Illinois Training and Standards Board for officers across the state.
As the Crisis Intervention Coordinator for his agency, he coordinated services for hundreds of families since the team's inception. JD has worked with individuals in crisis, ranging from children to older adults. These individuals experienced wide-ranging issues such as suicidal ideology, severe substance use, chronic mental health illness, PTSD, and trauma. He has participated in promoting positive change for both the law enforcement community's mental health awareness and support, in addition to community members, by having participated in numerous task forces, including The Illinois Supreme Court Mental Health Task Force. Through various law enforcement positions, including supervisor, training officer, Peer Support, truck enforcement officer, and community relations, in addition to positions within his local Labor Board, he has experienced many of the challenges law enforcement and First Responders face today.
